M is for Music
Auntie is responsible for me doing this:
Top 10 musicians/bands/songs beginning with M (in no particular order):
1. Michael Jackson - Sure, he’s a child molestor in exhile now, but once upon a time he was the greatest musician to grace the planet. Gotta give him props.
2. Timo Maas - Great DJ & producer and one of the few greats that I still haven’t managed to see live yet. Lots of good material from his classic remix of “Doom’s Night” to more recent tracks like “Shifter” featuring M.C. Chickaboo (best MC name ever).
3. Morcheeba - Continues to be one of my all-time favorite groups who make VERY solid albums loaded with great songs for chilling out to. I’ve always been surprised that they never caught on bigger than they did.
4. Moloko - I think the first Moloko album I bought for a dollar because the album title was weird (Do You Like My Tight Sweater? ), but the music turned out to be great.
5. Men Without Hats - One of my favorite eighties bands. Everyone loves them for the Safety Dance, but Pop Goes the World is a much better song.
6. Mezzanine by Massive Attack - Do I get a double-score for naming an artist and album with the same letter? I’m not a huge Massive Attack fan, but if you’re walking down the street and the song “Angel” kicks in, you can be sure that some shit is about to go down.
7. Miss Kitten - She introduced me to electroclash years ago before it spread like wildfire (sort of). Every track is classy. Picking up a copy of Danny Tenaglia’s 1998 “Global Underground: Athens” double-disc mix is totally worth it just for her “Frank Sinatra” song.
8. Erick Morillo - One of my all time favorite DJ’s and one of the highest critically acclaimed american DJs out there. I’ve only seen the man live once several years ago, but it still sticks in my head as one of the best DJ sets I’ve heard live. One hell of a busy producer as well pumping out more tracks and remixes than most.
9. Kylie Minogue - I’m not a huge fan of all of her music, but she’s always been a great trendsetter for dance music and makes some great remixable dance floor anthems.
10. Madonna - Same as Kylie. Not really a fan directly, but I appreciate her trendsetting and influence on other artists and genres in general. From what I’ve read though, she’s a total bitch in real life.
